Since it is too expensive right now to take my car into get the oil changed my husband is going to do it but I lost my owners manual so I don't know what kind of motor oil it takes. Anyone who truely knows VW's please let me know. Thanks!!!!

VW Golf 2004 What kind of oil am I supposed to use?

Depends on what engine you have, the base 2.0L is fine with any good quality 5W-30, the 1.8 T (the turbo) engine MUST use a synthetic oil. Because of the extra heat generated by the turbo the engine is sludge pronewith conventional mineral oil, VW specifies only synthetic oil. Mobil 1 is 5W-30 is a good choice.
