!!!!!Travel Help!!!!! Should rent a Satellite Phone or a Cell phone?

I am going to Australia and I need a phone. I found a cheep Sat phone rental but is that the right way to go. I mean will it work if i am standing by a widow in a hotel or on a bus.thank you
