can i buy a region one DVD from amazon, (im in the UK) and if so will it work on my dvd player?

A region 1 DVD will not work in a UK DVD player, but you can download programs that let you rip a DVD, then reburn it as region 2, or you can look up a way to hack your DVD player, or buy a region-free one.
