Are red peppers ok to eat when they've gone a bit green on the inside?

Well... I have some red peppers but the whitish membrane on the inside has gone a bit green. They smell ok. Are they safe to eat, or are they like like green potatoes; deadly poisonous, or fine. I'm not planning on cooking them.
