I live in the states and i have a friend that lives in canada. I just recently change my phone company to At&t hoping that i was still able to text my friend. But now he can still receive my texts but i can't receive his. Aren't they both compatible.?

Sounds odd, you should both call your providers to see if there is a network issue.
