HD-DVD player can play all formats, CD, DVDs and HD-DVD disc. However it can not play Blu-Ray DVD. Blu-Ray is also another high definition format and is different from HD-DVD.

A normal DVD player cannot play HD-DVD because HD-DVD is a high defintion format.

Just to let you know since April 2008, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray had a war for the past year in 2007 to see which high definition format would likely win and which movie studios would support. Blu-Ray is now the winner and you will see many titles in Blu-Ray format.

HD-DVD is no longer supported by many companies. You will not see many movie titles in HD-DVD any longer in the retail stores. More and more movies are coming out in Blu-Ray.

no you cant play hd-dvds on a normal dvd player. But you should definitely bring that up with the store manager you bought the item from. Or better yet. Contact Toshiba and ask them what is wrong with that item
