Playstation 3 through HD TV. Blu-Ray perfect, Normal DVDs distortion? ?

I have bought a 37inch HD TV and use my ps3 with it. The problem is the Blu-ray works prefectly but when i play normal Dvds i get distortion on certain images usually light moving objects like steam/gas/light and it looks like purple/pink pixelated on the edge of the image.

It is almost certainly a resolution type problem, as when i pause the ps3 and change the picture settings i can just about make the images disappear, but then the overall picture is not that great!

Are there certain settings on the ps3 i need to change, do i need a new hdmi cable?

No, unfortunately the Blu-ray player in the ps3 is "watered down" so to speak. The PS3 will play blu-rays just fine, but when it comes to upgrading DVD picture, the native hardware falls short.

My buddy has a huge dvd library and got rid of his ps3 and traded it for a stand alone Samsung Blueray player.

    Sorry!

Oh my god, that happened to us as well...we got the PS3 and it messed up the normal DVD player...it wouldn't work at all, no picture or sound. so we had to buy just blue ray DVDs to watch in the PS3. No big deal, just a bit more expensive Lol.
We're getting someone from Currys in to fix it...still no idea whats wrong with it!
