Ancestry, really need to know?

well, i have been on many sites that may have been good sites, but you have to pay. I dont have that kind of money to just figure out who is in my family and trace down history. I wish i had that kind of $$$. I am ver very very interested in finding out my ancesters. It'll be so cool to see that my family stared off by a white/european or native american ethnicity. on my mother & father side (which they both have in them)!! That would be so amazing!! Well if you see or could help me find a website that could help me find my family originators for free that would be a blessing!!!
