he is a nova scotia duck toller reitriever, he has been sprayed by skunks 3 times. twice in the face and once his side. i have gotten rid of the skunk since. but whenever he gets wet it realeases the stink. how long will it take to grow back? 1 year? is there any risks. im planning on shaving him early spring.

Shaving a dog this time of year is just asking for it to get sick. Shaving a dog at all is asking for problems. their coats protect them from many things.

Give it a bath in Tomato juice, or vinegar and lemon juice. It'll work, I promise.

I shave my aussie males in the spring and they grow their coats back in four months or so. I live in the south so later to get the freezing weather but they get the coat before it's needed. The only risk is he'll look funny, and might be embarrassed, lol

Instead of shaving him rinse him in Woolite for fine washables. That really does take care of the skunk smell.
