I have a Samsung HT-DS610. When i press the on button, it immediately displays a message saying PROTECTION, and it turns off. What can i do about this?

It grew an extra set of wires, and it snuck in your bed room. Its just telling you to use protection. Wow what an impressive home theater you have!

Disconnect all your speaker wires. A small strand of copper linking the "+" and "-" terminals is often the source of a receiver going into protect mode.

Turn the unit on. If it turns off with none of the speakers connected, the problem is internal.

Turn the unit back off and wire up 1 speaker. Take care to do a NEAT wire job and check the wires going into the speakers for a short.

Turn the unit on. If it stays on, repeat the process hooking up one speaker at a time until you find the problem.

Chances are just re-attaching the speaker wires neatly is all you need to do.
