in my internet connection? instead of using 1 16-port ethernet switch, can i use 2-8port ethernet switch to connect to my modem w/o any problem in my internet connection?

First it is not a modem. It may be a modem / router / 4 port network switch integrated into one single unit provided by the ISP.

You can connect the 2 8 port switches via straight CAT5 cable from the LAN ports of the modem / router / switch as you describe and all will work. You do not need to replace it w. one 16 port.

if you have a router you can do that without any problem at all.
you will need a router after your modem then the switch connected to the router and that's it.

your router will them give all pc ip address that is connected to either the switch or the router.

A minor drawback.

Usually one port is consumed to connect to another switch, so you get only 14 "free" ports out of 8x2 instead of 15 out of 16.
