Doesn't the test for ring worms in dogs take two weeks?

I might have a puppy with a ring worm and I went to a vet that was a complete sycho and only gave me a dewormer medication. I heard that I could get a skin scrape of the infected area but doesn't that take two weeks to get back? What should I do in between that time about it since it may or may not be a ring worm?
