I had a '3' mobile phone contract for 12 months, in 2004-2005.
I paid all my bills on time by direct debit.
10 months after I closed my account down and moved to another network, in 2005, I got a bill for about £160 from '3'.
I called them and asked what it was for and they told me it was call charges that came in late. They said sometimes that happens.
I told them it was unreasonable because I don't expect to be keeping track of my bills 10 months after I have closed an account down. I asked them for proof that they made their best effort to inform me of this during the 10 months (which they didn't).
It all went quiet.
1 months ago (we are in 2008 now, obviously), I get a credit company sending me threatening letters demanding payment of this bill. Apparently '3' sold this debt to them.
I now that legal threats coming through my door from this company.
I think it is really unfair. What should I do?
