Buy iPhone 3G, unlock it and use it in Europe with sim card.?

I am living in USA atm but in 2 months I am movin back to europe.
Now I want to know, can I buy iphone, unlock it and use simcard with it? Is there actually sim card slot?
And how to buy it? You need to make contract with at&t? Can I do that as foregner?

Is there way to just buy it and screw at&t, i dont want their stuff?
