Recently i bought a VW Passat 1999 model from a private party listed in craigslist. Unfortunately that guy cheated somehow and i got check engine light on 3rd day itself.
I took it to one auto service shop..He took few iterations to find the problem (spent around $800 :-(. After all rounds, he finally told problem is carbon build up on cylinders and it may cost like $4K. I could not afford that much so i am just driving it..Its running fine.
One thing i observe is, first 2-3 minutes of driving is not smooth. I have to hit gas even for going at 10 to 20 miles/hours. and it makes some kind of noice for that time and it struggles to move. After few minutes it runs smooth.
Any ideas..what is the issue or is there any other solution to my check engine light..appreciate your help on this.
