What will happen if I use a 12V/1000mA DC adapter in place of a 12V/500mA adapter?

Can someone please let me know whether it is possible to use a 12V/1000mA DC adapter in place of a 12V/500mA DC adapter,
My wireless router which was a 12V/500mA DC adapter breaked down and I have an spare 12V/1000mA DC adapter in home, but I do not know whether it will cause any damage to my router or it is fine to use it.
