In car ash trays and cig lighters:are they superfluous nowadays?

Mine have never been used, as no one smokes in my car ,nor would be allowed to!

Do you agree, that car manufacturers should faze them out and put cup holders or something more practical in their place?

    Hi
Most of the big car makers are now putting in optional ash trays and cig lighters . if you don't want them you just take them out and you have storage pone power etc

A lot of the more luxury car companies such as volvo, mercedes, etc. have already phased out the cigarette lighter and the ashtray and replaced them with just the ac adapters for cell phone chargers etc., and yes it seems to be much more practical!

On most new cars sold in the UK cigarette lighters are an optional extra the holder is retained as a power outlet for Satnav etc., on some new cars the ash tray is also an optional extra.
