BlackBerry PIN numbers?

I just got a blackberry pearl. I have no idea what a pin number is, what it is used for, and why you would use the pin number instead of a blackberry owner's actual phone number?

its usuall 0000 or the last 4 digits of your own phone number

I dont have a blackberry but am getting one and my friends have one. I think the 'pin' is for blackberry messenger which is uesd to message other people with blackberrys if you have their pin, also you get this pin when you buy the phone i think.
I am not sure on all this information but you could google it or ask around.

its used for messages...just like other messenger..ur blackberry services should be activated from your service provider..and then u wont get charged for messenger...
