A Japanese friend of mine asked me
why do people say 'I was hoping to do something' when they are talking about the future?
To be honest I couldn't answer him. Why is this phrase in the past tense?
Interesting idea InSearchOfLight,
but now I have to find a simple way to put that to explain to my friend. His English is very good but he's not quite fluent.
Anyone have any more ideas?
