How do I reset the Check Engine light ? 98 Ford Ranger?

I disconected the alarm, the one that warns you when the lights are left on , Keys left in the gnition, etc. On my test drive the speedometer didn't work , and the check engine light came on. So I reconected the alarm and now everything works again , but the check light stays on . How do I reset ? Also I very much want that alarm gone , anyone know how to silence it , and still have everything work? Even the dome light woudn't work !

To reset the light, disconnect the negative battery terminal for one minute. Then reconnect.

As for the alarm, you could disconnect the speaker/buzzer. It will still function, but it will not make noise. ; ) If it is hard to find, a manual should show its exact location.
