I guess it depends on where you live.
In the Bay Area (California), certain neighborhoods have been hit by foreclosures and such but there are still very strong markets in the San Francisco Bay Area. Selling my home now to downsize (just to cut down on monthly costs) would be a net loss. My home value has been appreciating steadily (even in this economic climate) and I've even received 2 offers for my home even though I didn't even put it out on the market.
No. I would look to other ways to save money before I did that.
We're fairly downsized now, but still feeling the effects of high energy costs. However, this makes me so happy that we didn't buy the bigger house I wanted years ago and made do with what we had.
I am sure that a lot of people are looking to downsize, except no one is buying what they have to sell in order to do it.
If I downsized my home I would be living in a box.
My economic future is totally secure - so no, i wont be downsizing.
My husband and I had enough sense not to buy a home we couldn't afford... so we didn't. Therefore... not a problem for us.
I resisted the "Urge" to Upsize my home- back when the Economy was good... And BOY am I glad!
