Would you suffocate your screaming baby if it would prevent enemy soldiers...

...from finding and killing you both? ...along with the eight others hiding out with you?

This question is taken from "Is Morality Natural?" by Marc D. Hauser, Ph.D. It was published in this week's Newsweek.

No, i would just stick my finger in its mouth and let it bite on it, while the soldiers passed.

My great+++++grandmother hid in a log with her infant and nursed it until the indians were gone-talk about sweating bullets.

How many enemy soldiers are you talking about? If I knew that we would get killed anyway, then I'd kill myself first.

Yes if that was the only way i could get it to be quiet, since i would also be saving 8 other peoples lives, it wouldn't be easy but its better then us all dying. but if it was just me and the baby, no.

I think I'm bright enough to find another option that would save us all. Covering the baby's mouth for instance, but not its nose.

That's the problem these days. No one thinks outside the box.

Those kind of thoughts are not allowed to run free through my mind, in the bible Job said: "that which I greatly feared has come upon me", so in my mind you will find: "God's blessings follow me and overtake me daily more than abundantly and no evil shall overtake me in any way, no weapon formed against shall prosper, and God delivers me from the evil one".

I read this article. I don't believe I could suffocate my baby for any reason. In this case, guess we would all die.

    I honestly cannot answer that.

My neighbor and I had a long talk about something similar.... the thought is so discomfiting, I don't think I can analyze it in a non emotional way.
