My iphone wont unlock.. PLEASE HELP!!?

my friend let me have his iphone and he had his sim card in it then he took it out and so it still worked and i could listen to songs and take pics and stuff just not call anybody so when i pluged it to my comp to charge it i guess it updated and restored it so now its just locked and i cant do nothing with it its just locked. is there a way i can ulock it with a tmobile sim card or unlock it with no sim card and its a 8gb iphone . \PLEASE HELP
