My usb port overloads when I connect my PDA, will it still be a problem if I get...

...a Cardbus with usb ports? Okay, so I have a moderately old laptop (Dell c400 latitude). Everything works great except when I plug my PDA in and try to Sync with it, the charge is too great. Will using a Card bus with USB ports help me get around that problem?
