If I have only one HDMI input into my 1080P TV, do I use it for my DirectTV...

...HD receiver or my DVD player? ? Can I get full 1080P resolution using component cables instead of HDMI?

yes you can get full 1080p resolution with component cables. if you have only one HDMI slot, then plug your Directv HD receiver into that and use the component cables for the dvd player.
