want to host my own server for my website but i only have a dsl internet...

...connection would this be enough to do? what i want it to and would there be any adverse side affects to the way i browse the internet now if i did this. right now i am trying to work on starting up my own internet website and the traffic would be extremly low for the first few months but i expect it to stedily start getting more traffic and i read what they have as servers and figured i could build my own computer box for a server for now till i get enough money to pay a hosting site to host my information.

no cause i read one site, www.hostgator.com and they only want you to use 10% of what u sign up for, so say like a 100gb of space, u can only use 10% of it and thats kinda dumb

I do this, but it costs a bit more...
I pay about 80 bucks a month for 6G down, 768K up, and 32 static IP's.

It works pretty darned well for hosting about 15 email domains and a handful of not-to-awfully-busy websites.

For the big stuff, I use a VPS hosting provider (hosting.com, etc.).

Wouldn't paying for a hosting site be a cheaper and more reliable option? Just asking. I don't really know the situation in your area.
