Why are apples and grapes widely used in wine making?

I a secondary school kid so please don't be too intricate.

they both are high sugar and ferment well. fermenting is like rotting in a good way. as the process happens, the fruit juice turns acidic.
 
Because they are the fruits that make the nicest wine, also they are quite cheap. you can make wine out of anything really, potatoes, tomatoes, pears :D
