Would I be stupid to purchase a 1992-93 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.6?

I am 16, and thought it would be a good first car. My mother says I am stupid, because she thinks that it will be unreliable, expensive to insure/ maintain. Is she right? What do you honestly think? It is either that car, or a '99 Jeep Wrangler. Which one is better?
And why is she or why isn't she right?
