here's the background: I recently got my bf a job with the security company I work for and he was doing his online training, so I decided to do mine too to renew my guard card. I've been a security guard for like two years, I'm a supervisor, and I've been associated with the company for like 6 years. we were chatting. here it is:
me: boo. I don't need to know about cold and hypothermia... when is that ever gonna come up?

me: that's still not very cold... and stuff like that never lasts
Alano: but if somone fell into the ocean on a night like that
or for a long time was in the watter
me: we're guarding the ocean? since when did I qualify as a lifeguard?

me: ... you wanna be a lifeguard? I'm a security guard. yup.
Alano: look they tell you this stuff because it could happen, not because it will happen
