...waitresses complaining about tips? get another job then my husband went to college and noone tips him for doing his job. I found a website that waitresses write on and one was mad b.c someone left her a 30 dollar tip instead of a fifty dollar one too bad those of us with college educations barely make 30 dollars an hour why should you. I know not all servers are like this of course but its their job and its not my fault you choose a unsteady job.I think not tipping is rude but these people get mad about the size of the tip shouldnt the tip be extra and not expected?

I worked in a casino, change dept in one of the lower class Vegas joints. One drink girl was counting her tips in the ladie's room. I said that it made me feel jealous that she counted them in front of me. She said "Well, I only make $4 per hour. I have to have tips." I told her I made $4 an hour too, and I didn't get tips in the job I was in. (I quit that job soon afterward, got a better one.)

You do sound like you're being mean, to me. Waiters/servers work very hard. I betcha they work harder than many college educated folks. And they have to survive, too.

I know how you feel.

I especially see waiters/waitresses complaining when they gave exceptionally BAD service! One had the gall to tell me he usually gets better tips than the quarter I left him. I told him in response that I usually get better service than what he gave us. No kidding. He only took our drink order and we had to get up and get the COOKS to get someone to take our order. Turns out the jerk was entertaining a wealthy family and pretty much ignored us.

What a lot of ignorant people here don't realize is that tips are *NOT* mandatory and the wages for a waitress/waiter should ALWAYS be minimum wage like other jobs. That way they don't depend on this tips. Tips are an extra BONUS for good service and nothing irritates me more than a server who thinks they're entitled to tips even with bad service.

I do not care if they're having a bad day, problems, etc. We ALL have bad days and problems too and at my job, nobody's going to be understanding. Waitresses work hard yes, but there are plenty of other jobs that require hard work and no tipping. Who tips me for educating, babysitting, disciplining, and putting up with children from 8-4pm everyday?

I agree with what al of you are saying, but in all reality I don't think many of you realize that their starting wage is in fact 2-3 dollars an hour. What they make in tips makes up for the below minimum wage income. In all reality servers only make 7-12 dollars an hour, depending on the day and the shift they work.
