Both systems have advantages and disadvantages. The most important thing is that the leaders of the countries follow the laws that are in place and do not allow for manipulation. In the United States, our President has been allowed to skirt the common law in order to invade the personal privacy of American citizens. On the other hand, Italian Premier Berlusconi has used the civil law to easily adjust laws that make him immune from prosecution.

As stated before they both have advantages and disadvantages. But in my opinion Common law is better, because then everyone is treated the same.
