Bike size - 11 year old boy?

Hi, our son is turning 11, and we're thinking of getting him a new bike. I'm thinking his current one is 20 inch, and looking online it seems like it jumps from 20 to 24inch. What size bike does your child use, and how old is he or she? Has anyone heard of a 22 inch? I'm thinking the 20 is just a little too small. Thanks.

its best to get a bike a little bit bigger cause he can always grow into it instead of growing out of it...

You're talking wheel size. There is no 22" that I know of. And I've seen big kids, 6' plus, riding 20 bikes. Looks funny, and they'll probably blow their knees out.

You go by frame size. You don't give his height or inseam, though. I'm 5'6" and ride a 16" frame on a 26" (wheel size, remember) mountain bike. Best bet is to take him to a bike store (NOT Wally World or other department store) and have those guys fit him.
