Help! I need to identify a religion.?

I am a teacher and I currently have a student in my class who has many restrictions based upon her religion. She's nonverbal, and I'm trying to figure out what religion her family practices so that I can better understand how to help her observe the necessary practices. This is what I know: she wears a head scarf and has a shaved head, but no one else in her family does, she is not allowed to watch TV, she can't eat red food or wear red clothes, she can't eat any sort of squash or melon, she is not allowed to have her picture taken, and we're not allowed to touch her head. When I've asked her parents (politely and with respect) what religion they practiced, I was only told it was African. Any ideas? Thanks!
