does restoring iphone 3g delete contacts?

i have an iphone 3g. and its lagging like crazy when i "slide to unlock" and go to sms or scroll though my contacts. i read on a forum that i need to restore even though it says not to. will this delete my contacts?

yes it will, but make sure to sync with your Microsoft outlook before resetting then will create back up for your iPhone. then reset your iphone.
after resetting connect to your iTunes and make sync will back up all your contacts, App and all the same was.
