What does the basic pet turtle eat in general?

Well, my cousin just called and he said he just got a pet turtle from a friend. And he is asking what a pet turtle eats. I have no idea what species of turtle it is. I used to have a turtle myself but that was when I was around the age of five. So I am clueless. Help please! Thank you!

I had a turtle 2 years ago and I used to feed her with some kind of turtle sticks, it's available at all pet shops as long as they have turtles there.the sticks got pretty much all thr nutrients they need.Good Luck !
