hitch hiking across America?

I am thinking of going to the USA and hitch hiking aross it has any one ever done it be for and what advice would u give me

God no katlyn do not hitch hike alone... there's too many weirdos and sickos out there girl...this is not Europe...take a train or bus...

i would advise against doing that.

there was a time it was basically safe, but those days are gone.

also fuel prices are way up, and many are not traveling like they did, and the united states is vast, many areas are desolate and you could be in for a bad time.
