and sometimes when i stop at a stop light it will turn off...its a 1997. automatic...2.0 engine...i have already changed the timming belt. and spark plugs and oil and filter. What could the problem be?

It sounds electronic. Take it to Autozone and have the OBD codes read (it's free). That will tell your whether its the computer or a sensor.
