Windows/Mac/Linux (Firefox): The autoHideStatusbar Firefox extension helps give you a clean browsing experience by automatically hiding the statusbar on the bottom of your browser window.
You can tweak the behavior of autoHideStatusbar, determining when and after how long your statusbar is visible. I've set my statusbar to show immediately any time I'm hovering over a link, whenever a page is loading, or if I hover near the status bar. If you keep a close eye on a lot of items in the fox's statusbar, this might not be for you, but if you want to clean up the clutter, it's a nice extension. Browsers like Safari entirely forego the statusbar, and while it looks very clean, it robs you of quick access to lots of information, namely where a link is pointing. Chalk this up as another way to get Safari's best features in Firefox without losing out on what also makes Firefox better. AutoHideStatusbar is free, works wherever Firefox does. Thanks Paul!
