you can always google magic video converter, it does any video format, download the trail

Almost all avi to dvd are paid version... If there is no watermakrs in convertion, there are 30 day trial and some might only convert up to a certain minutes of the movie..

try this one.. it said it is free but I have not tried it..

why can you try nero . where as while writing it in a disk as a video (VCD/DVD) it will convert the movies to the corresponding format . try it .

nero start smart is best
