My husband comes from a family of alcoholics. When I first met him, he drank every night and got drunk every night. Why I didn't see this as a warning, I don't know. We were in college and I guess it seemed like every guy I knew drank a lot. After we dated for awhile, he stopped drinking during the week for the sake of our relationship. Now it is 8 years later and we are married with a baby. The problem is that when he does drink, he drinks excessively. He can't just drink 3-4 beers a night, he drinks 3-4+ beers an hour for several hours. He turns into a different person and he gets super defensive and extremely argumentative. It's like he's a chained attack dog who's constantly growling and trying to bite people, even when they are trying to give him a treat. I am at the point where I can't take this and I can't have my child around this either. The problem is that he is the best husband and father when he's not drinking. Is this a sign of alcoholism? How do I help him?
