alright so my problem is that i can get on SOME websites with my browser (i use both mozilla and internet explorer), but when i click a link or refresh it or try to leave the website, it doesn't work. example: yahoo is my homepage and i can get on it, but then i can't check email or click any of the links. this happened after i ran an exe that made a command prompt pop up, then disappeared.

NOTE: i used task manager to stop explorer.exe and now without explorer running in the background, it works. very weird
i already have avast and it's not helping
i would prefer it if the instructions to fix the problem applied to firefox

i had the same problem as you, to fix your internet broweser do the following:
click on tools then internet options
Then on the advanced tab uncheck "enable third-party browser extensions"
that should fix it up

i had the same problem i couldn't get yahoo or amazon so i did a system restore to about a month earlier and it worked plus i scanned for viruses and had two trojens which i got rid of with windows live one care
