Isn't the President's job to make sure everyone has the right to practice or not practice religion as they wish in the United States? Shouldn't THAT be the only role religion plays?

Why should it matter if a President is Mormon, atheist, Muslim, or whatever? He should be free to practice as he wishes, just as EVERY American should be free to practice as he wishes.
I guess I can see why it's an issue in the election, if there are as high a percentage of ignorant people voting as there are replying to this question. Most people's only knowledge of Islam is that of the extremists. There are extremists of all religions. Most wars are the result of religious disagreements.

The only reason we will never get to a point where there are no wars is that we will probably never, as a civilization, get to the point where one religion tries to understand another. Just like those with ignorant replies toward Muslims, it's easier to hate than to learn.
