Would it be wise to invest in a Blackberry Pearl?

I'm looking for something small, effective, and more usefull than a regular phone. I figure it might be a good investment while I go off to college, help me keep my appointments straight and such. The ability to have internet access included is very appealing to me since I am often on the go. But, it must still be able to make calls, I have no desire to own a Palm Pilot or anything of the sort.

I am considering the Blackberry Pearl.
