Using Internet Explorer; my computer deletes cookies, internet history etc... once they are 10 days old; out of curiosity I am wondering when this happens; is it when the PC first boots up, as a background process or when you first open Internet Explorer.

This happens when you turn off the computer but you should configure the computer to delete cookies and internet history when you have finished working. This means that you do not, have to wait ten days. To enable this option click on Tools, Internet Options, click onto the Advabced Tab, scroll down to the heading named Security. Scroll down to Empty Internet Files folder when browser is closed and put a checkmark in the box to the left. Click Apply.

No idea really, probably when windows starts up. I have never seen IE give me a message like 'deleting history file' popping up automatically.

But if you really want to get rid of that stuff, I suggest using CCleaner (free & small download at www.filehippo.com). You can delete your web history, cookies and a bunch of other stuff really easy with this.

neither...it happens at the exact moment when they expire (ie 10 days old).... the system's mainframe keeps running even when you turn off your pc....like the pc clock, for example....same way, when they turn old, the pc automatically deletes them...

n thnx for the 2 points, nyways...

Internet stuff is deleted based on the calendar date of the record. You can, however, change the date, or just delete everything (like I do at work or a public computer) by deleting your visit before you log off. Although you delete the information, there is a still a small footprint left, so to speak, but that's something a computer/forensics specialist would have to untangle.
