can I sue my high school for an injury I had while playing sports?

Hi, I torn my acl playing soccer for sanger high school in 1992, now I am 36. I've had a lot of problems with my knee since then, arthritis etc...They knew I had a torn ACL but did not do anything about it. Back then I did not know the school had to pay for my surgery, however they did not do anything about it. I had two knee surgeries already, but I had nothing but problems because doctors said I should of take care of it right away. 7 years past since I had the chance to fix my ACL and meniscus the first time. Anyways my question is if I can sue them for not taking care of me right away, now my knee is all messed up? Thanks
