My cable man gave me a wire to hook up my standard DVD player with my HDTV

so I can watch HD movies.? I was wondering if I can play Blu-Ray movies on this also. It seems like there are a lot more movies coming out on Blu-Ray than HD. Can I play the blu-ray on this regular DVD player with the HD wires or do I need a Blu-Ray disk player.

A standard DVD player can't play Blue Ray. It just gives a better connection to your TV

You need a Blu-ray player to watch Blu-ray Discs.
The cable might enable you to watch DVD at a better resolution. (ex. 1080p or whatever limitation your HDTV has)

If you gave the model number of your TV and DVD it would be easier to research. So this is my best guess.
