Gameboy Advance SP is the best videogame system for younger kids. It is portable so it can go where they go. The system is also built sturdy in case it is dropped. It is rechargeable with a battery life of 7-10 hours and no extra batteries are needed (Ideal for trips). The system is backwardly compatable so it can play games from the original Gameboy and the Gameboy Color. It has 700+ GBA games for this system so there is a huge selection to choose from with many titles aimed at children. It is the best selling videogame system so it is likely their friends will have one too. The system is priced cheap at under $100 with games ranging at around $15 to $50.

Gamecube. It has lots of kid-friendly and girl-friendly games and it's a very good value for the money right now.
