my dog becomes coward when there is thunder. why?

there is heavy thunder and lightning right now in my area and my dog who is generally very bold and acts as good guard, is now scared as hell and is shaking and trembling.

to confront his fear, i take him outside forcibly but he started making moaning noises and kind of begged me to bring him in. i then bring him in.

why my dog start acting cowardly when its thunder.

he is 1 year old mix breed.

Your mean to your dog....don't do that!!! Many animals are afraid of storms. It used to set off epileptic fits in our dog. I hope something that scares the crap out of you gets forced on you someday.........
