Why aren't children protected enough on the internet?

What with porn and stalkers, shouldn't more be done to protect kids? Shouldn't child welfare come first?
    Children are responsible!

NO I'm not having that for a second. PARENTS are responsible for children.

Does that mean to say all the paedo victims are a fault. NO. That's dam* sick!
I am NOT a parent myself, that's why.
    I'm talking under 18s.

    I am 17 myself.
It's clear that some people are just not concerned at all or are ignorant of it.

The welfare of children should be put above all else. I don't care about how much people like porn and chat rooms. Since not enough parents are taking action can there not be a ban or certain sites altogether?

Lets just say 10 years ago internet first came out, well back then the children wer 15 and lets just say they do what you said,

    - 15 year old can be charged as adults already so wtf unless ur talking about 8 year olds then.. yeah

-they are now about 28, and did we see any humongous problems? no

they grew up to be a normal human being, unless its their nature to born with, alot of people lets just say in compton are too poor to even buy computers, so they cant do that its all in the nature of the human

but what age are you talking about for your main focus? like 13 and under?

Parents need to be more responsible for they're children. But these days, that does not happen NEAR enough!

The main line of defense should be the parents. If the child is spending too much time on the computer, it's up to the parents to pay attention to where they are going and what they are doing.

Just like most 'dangers' for kids, lack of education. Parents need to teach their kids how to be safe on the Internet. Parents need to better supervise their children.
Filtering software can be very effective. Parents need to know about this.

The Internet is a massive, global, free medium, it is impossible to police it to perfection.

    youre kidding right?.......

the internet is business, and money is more important than anything---thats not my opinion, thats a fact.

if you want to protect kids, maybe we should take a closer look at McDonalds who lures kids in with toys, and then sell them garbage to eat.....same go for breakfast cereals....

there's so much wrong with our society in regards to how we treat our kids and our senior citizens it makes my head hurt.

Parents of children should be responsible for what their kids are doing on the internet. They should sit there and watch them or add filters and activity trackers so that they they can protect them.

Leave the government out of it. They have too many laws that they don't have the manpower to enforce.

Your question should be, 'What can I, as a parent, do to protect me kids online?'
