child welfare is not the only thing that should come first, humanity as a community. the reason as to why children aren't protected enough on the internet is very complicated. for example, w/ porn, it's because people can make money off of it, sadly. especially that through the internet anything can happen, and i mean anything, its never gonna be 100% safe because there'll always be that hacker who is smart enough to "hack" into the system and steal personal information, etc. Ultimately, we have to rely on kids' parents to guide their kids and teach them right from wrong, we also need to make sure parents and children are aware of the dangers of the internet (stalker, etc.). if people were more aware and could identify the wrongs it'd be easier to avoid things like stalkers, etc. and safer to "surf" the net.
well if children are responsible enough they shouldnt go on that crap !!! :]
Sure...but it's not really the website's fault...most kids don't give their real ages. The website can't help if they don't know how old the kid is...
The parents have the responsibility to make sure that kids don't go to web sites they shouldn't. There is all kinds of software available that will block wen sites the parents deem inappropriate. The Internet itself can't be policed, nor should it. However the parents need to take an active roll in monitoring their child's web browsing activities and can't be afraid to turn the computer off if necessary.
